Acting

Burying the N-Word

Burying the N-Word was an action that involved holding a mock funeral for the word. Initiated by NAACP in 2007, it was spearheaded by Julian Bond, NAACP National Board Chairman (and George School alumnus). Click here for an article about the action.

James Varner recreated this action of a mock funeral at New England Yearly Meeting in 2008.  You can stage this action at your church or organization as you see fit. It can be simple or elaborate. Maybe it would be interesting to hold a “memorial service” in the manner of your faith.

Part of this action is signing a contract. If staging the full action is beyond your abilities, you could simply initiate an action of signing the contract (see link).
